L. Ferrari's Response to the UCCRC Report
After submitting the February report to the UCCRC, Dr. Leonard Ferrari strongly supported
a minor in graphics. In particular he suggested that such a minor would fit nicely into the
proposed "Virtual Corporation" proposal recently submitted to NSF. One of the Virtual
Corporation projects was to work with local and regional hosiptals in medical image analysis
systems such as MRI & CAT scans.
From conversations he has had with individuals from the private sector there is an increased
demand for a graphics minor.
Because graphics has become an important tool in existing projects and other research
activities in the Department of Electrical Engineering, they have created a Visualization Lab
from a Education Grant from Silicon Graphics Inc. This Laboratory will be specifically
targeted to enhance the undergraduate curriculum. Dr. Ferrari offered that the new
Visualization Laboratory could be part of the University Minor in Graphics across the
curriculum.
